Evan Almighty (2007)
|
The unexpected sequal to the great comedy of 2003 Bruce Almighty, Evan Almighty follow the life of Bruce's Nemesis Evan Baxter who has moved onto better things being elected to congress. With the slogan "Change the world" Evan moves with his family to Virgina on arrival at his new home Evan prays for guidance and the next morning he begins to encounter strange things. First his alarm clock goes off at GEN 6:14, and then he finds a house warming gift, a box filled with old tools, at his front door. The next weird thing is a truck load of gopher wood is delivered to Evan's house. God finally appears to Evan and tells him to build an Ark just as Noah did before him and to fill it with animals to protect them against the coming flood. Evan believes he is under a lot of stress and that is causing him to go a little crazy. So it takes a little persuasion from God to get Evan to build an Ark. Although the film has its comic moments the comedy lacks the driving force of Jim Carrey to drive it through. Without Steve Carell (Evan Baxter) & Morgan Freeman's (God) Comic double act the film would flop.
As a film it works but is lacking compared to Bruce Almighty. Review by Patrick Hill
