Hot Fuzz (2007)
|
"Shaun of the Dead" was probably one of the funniest British black comedies that had been released in 2004. With gritty violence that made you squirm, innocent humour (Nick Frost) with blaspheming insults that just made you laugh out loud, and the quick wit of Simon Pegg with some great fun and horror mixed together, "Hot Fuzz" had a huge task of competing with the sheer greatness, of which was "Shaun of the Dead". The film opens with Sergeant Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) as an overly professional member of the MET police force. Making other officers look bad with a 400% higher arrest record Angel is moved from the busy London streets to the sleepy lanes of Sandford. Partnered with the well-meaning but overeager police officer Danny Butterman (Nick Frost). Unfortuanatly as a series of "accidents" rocks Sandfords peaceful streets Angel is convinced that Sandford is not what it seems and as the intrigue deepens. Danny dreams of big action policing "car chases, guns and Sh*t" and these quickly become a reality as Angel & Danny result to big city police justice. Frost and Pegg deliver a classic comedic double act again even better in my opinion than the comical double act of Shaun & Ed (Shaun of the dead). Edgar Wright blends comedy and action seemlessly to create a brilliant Comedic romp. Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's writing is back and better than Shaun of the Dead. Hot Fuzz a great film, if you loved Shaun of the Dead and Spaced then this is the film for you. Review by Patrick Hill
