Shrek the Third (2007)
|
I remember seeing the first Shrek on my birthday in 2001 and I also remember loving every minute of it. The first film was superb with the way it blended adult humour with a fun fairytale story. The second film picked up the duo of Shrek and Donkey and added the third character of Puss to the team. This film was a little bit worse but was still entertaining in a lot of ways but lacking the originality and charm of the first. This time as the trilogy ends, however, the story is terrible and the jokes are mostly lame. There are a number of laughs to be found here but they are sadly lacking. The storyline may well be the sort of thing lifted out of a fairytale but it is also far too childish and full of meaning.
This third film follows Shrek as he has to find the heir to the throne of Far Far Away, the heir is overly annoying and childish and has to find his true self blah blah blah its very boring and ultimately very little happens in Shreks plot. Meanwhile Prince Charming is back and he wants revenge so he gathers all manner of beastly villains and wrecks havoc. I think I left something out of the plot but I am not sure what it was but this film can be summarised in that space and therefore is shallow and daft. This film fails to live up to my expectations and in many ways falls flat on its face, an ending to a trilogy should be interesting but this was dull and mostly lifeless except for the appearance of Eric Idle as Merlin. I would wish this on you only if you are a child or have a child’s mind.
