Every American needs to see this film when it is released it will open your eyes and show you that your health system can be much better. Michael Moore’s films have always been the only documentary’s I enjoy as he creates exposés of American issues such as gun violence and George Bush. This one is probably his most poignant to date as he exposes the problems of America’s health care system. The film opens as we learn of one citizen who does not have healthcare having to pay $60,000 if he wants his middle finger sewn back on after an accident. He masterfully shows the faults of the American system and the way that other countries offer a free and impartial health service compared with the picky insurance policies of the American system. The case studies may well miss out the down points of these other systems and that is the only real down point of his powerful film. He does not lie, he just misses out the occasional truth to build the view he wants to get across. An example of this would be his overview of the British system (in which the life expectancy is 4yrs longer than America’s) where he fails to point out the lengthy times we have to often wait for treatment. It seems in this sense, however, that the NHS is on a similar footing to the American system. This film shows the American Health system as it really is as he questions Americans who have moved abroad as well as those struggling at home. It ends on a powerful note that will hopefully rally the people to make a difference in America. When this film opens on the 29th I want everyone to go and see it and then if American writes to your congressman and make your voice felt. Moore is on top form here, being less controversial than he has been previously (bringing on libel cases) and taking a more background role in this film, you will be touched and learn from this story.
