So this film contrary to what a review for metro may think is indeed a film and not a reflection of history or popular culture. Wow so the bad guys wear black and this may be racist um the army is from asia and Africa of course they are not going to have a European look you daft woman. Whose idea was it to get a woman to review a male centred film anyway?
Anyway enough whining at poor reviewing, it may not be historically accurate (although in some places it is) and is wildly entertaining in its blood lust view of the ancient world. We are meant to admire this army of 300 as they take on the million strong army of the Persian empire. We watch as they take on the hordes one attack at a time with little to no damage to their own forces. This is integrated with shots of Sparta at war with itself in the council chamber as they try to decide whether to send the army to help the king. You will the army to win however you do not have an emotional attachment to any of the soldiers. Great they're dead but I don't care because you haven't gotten me close enough to care about the characters. Gloss over this fact and you have a war film which is 10 times better than Troy was. The style is good and exciting and the pace is perfect just add more emotional attachment and it would be perfect. They almost get it right at the very end but not quite. Good acting all around makes this not overly historical tale a very enjoyable story.
