Man of the Year (2006)
|
I dearly hope that this film gets some form of release in the UK soon. To show how slow we are at picking up this film I will say it is already out on DVD in America. I saw the trailer for this film about a year ago now and thought it looked brilliant. I was right, Robin Williams plays a comedian who is encouraged by his audience to run for president he does and then he wins (that isn't giving any of the plot away really, it is just the first 20mins. It does this section of the film brilliantly, he made such a good candidate that I would have voted for him. He spoke of reform and changing the system. The film however takes a complete change of direction once he has won the election and slows down a lot. It is in this stage that the film struggles for about 10mins of its run time it stops moving and the plot fails to move forward. It suddenly stops being funny and reveals serious issues. It does not do this stage particularly well. The ending wraps everything up and you are left feeling satisfied. This is one of the best films I have seen even if it does get a little slow in the middle (heck there are even bits of Lord of the Rings that I forward) and I really loved it. If you can get your hands on a copy I suggest you do as this is one of Robin Williams' better roles. You shall not regret it. Review by Jonathan Little
