6/8/2006 Cars (2006)
I didn't know what to think of this film before I saw it. I was hoping that pixar weren't going to get it wrong for the first time in the company's history. I did however fail to see just how they would get the storyline to work for them. I didn't see how they would get the cars to look sleek and the racing to be realistic. I needn't of worried this company is superb. The film is brilliant and in a way very realistic. The way that mid race you start to see the remnants of tyres starting to form around the track, just little black specks of rubber. This looked really realistic, the cars are also looking impressive. I wouldn't say they look 100% real but they are near enough there and I loved this film. The storyline also makes sense, stubborn selfish racecar gets stranded in a small town where the local cars teach him a little about values. It is a great kids film which others can enjoy as well.
This film only suffers in the way that all racing and indeed sports films do. The hero goes behind during the match/race, then they fight hard to find their way to the front again. Its even more impossible here, the hero goes a lap down against two drivers whom he has struggled to beat on equal terms all season and somehow makes up that lap and comes back at them fighting for the win. How is such a thing possible? In a real race it would not happen, your a lap down tough you ain't gonna be coming back without something happening out on track. I've seen enough races to know that, this is the only way the film suffers. Its a touching film and if you don't mind the racing being slightly unrealistic it is great. I hope that everyone gets to see this computer generated masterpiece.
