the Man (2005)
|
I never thought I would dislike a Samuel L Jackson film. Even though he plays the same character everytime I love his acting. This is a new low, if you regularly read my reviews you will have seen I have also slagged off Shaft, I hated that film and I hate this one even more. The problem for Sam is I think he is incapable of saying no to films, one appears on his desk and he says yes without hesitation as long as it fills the stereotype of his roles, ie a hardass bastard. That is the problem with this film, his character looks like a muppet who has smoked too much. Its meant to be a comedy but it made me want to cry. The storyline is that Sam's character is a cop who's partner has been killed in an arms deal gone wrong. Eugene Levy who has not been funny since American Pie is a man selling dental equipment who gets confused with the bad guys. Its not filmed brilliantly the villains might be good ones but its a story we've seen a thousand times with just an added comedic element. The problem is its really not at all funny. There are places where it is trying to reference lines Sam says in Pulp Fiction but it fails at it just looking unoriginal and pathetic. I would not wish this film on anyone!
