Over The Hedge (2006)
|
This is the story of RJ the Raccoon who has to refund a bear for food which he stole and then subsequently lost. In his search to recover said food he stumbles upon a ‘family’ of other creatures voiced by such comedy legends as um… Avril Lavigne? Seriously though there is voice talent here and they do a good job of portraying their characters, yes even Avril who plays a Teenage style Possum. This ‘Family’ has started to lost its home to local development as their habitat is surrounded by our concrete jungle. RJ teaches them how to survive in this environment and to fend for themselves.
This is definitely a film for the kids. It is also however a film which the parents can go and see and enjoy as well. The characters are all created colourfully and the animation is pretty high quality. They look realistic whilst also looking cartoony which is important for an animation (hoodwinked?) There is also a character in this film that can finally rival Ice Ages Scrat for comedy character of the millennium. He is called Hammy and he is a red squirrel. He is basically hyper and well all over the place. Get to the end of the film and you shall see why he is pure genius.
This is the kind of film that if I were 8 years old I would be looking forward to it for a couple of months. Now I am ten years older than that it is a see it when I get round to it kind of film. I probably also enjoy it slightly less but the magic is still there and that is why you should also go and see it. It is a very good family film.
