The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
|
Ok so I don't like horror films, partly because they are cheap thrills with no real story line and partly because the characters don't have brains. This film really is no exception but it does what it wants to do very well.
I haven't seen the original but this remake is indeed impressive. The reason for the family to be taking the drive and not a flight to California is never satisfactorily explored to me but the way in which the monsters crash the car is very cool and enjoyable. The film is good at scaring you and making you jump however every time you jump it is only from someone running past a window and after a while this gets a bit old. Where the film excels is in the last 20mins where it stops trying to be scary and starts being a story about the desperation to find and save family members. The film is labelled as very gory and most of the places where it is bloody it is really not needed for example the gas station guys untimely demise just looks fake. But if you want a good little horror film to keep you entertained for near on 2hrs this is it. Review by Jonathan Little
