27 Dresses (2008)
|
Forget “thrice a bridesmaid, never a bride”… Jane (Katherine Heigel) has been a bridesmaid twenty seven times and has some major issues about letting people stomp all over her. Now she’s facing her sister’s wedding to her boss, who Jane’s had a crush on for years. Can Jane learn to stand up for herself? A very predictable and formulaic romantic comedy, 27 Dresses puts a smile on your face nonetheless. Though it’s obvious from the start who will end up with whom, fresh details and funny quirks like a Gone With the Wind themed bridesmaid dress and sudden round of Benny and the Jets entertain the whole way through. Heigel’s performance is beautiful as she portrays a girl developing from oppressed subservient maid to bridezilla to the heroine of her own marriage. Review by Elizabeth Little
