Sweeney Todd (2008)
|
I went to see this film and he figured it was flawless and I tend to agree with that. Sweeney Todd does what it says on the tin and is probably the most bloody film I have ever seen. Then again if you are expecting anything else when you walk into the cinema then you shouldn't be there. The story is that of Sweeney Todd obviously who gets arrested and sent to Australia to live out the rest of his life after a judge takes a fancy to his wife. Years later he returns to exact his revenge on the evil judge and find out what happened to his family. The film is paced brilliantly the acting and singing are brilliant especially the two leads in Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter who could so easily have been rubbish. The film also had what is maybe one of the best montage sequences I have ever seen as we play out Mrs Lovetts fantasy of marrying Todd and spending her life with him. I do not believe another actor could have pulled off Tim Burton's Todd and I am glad that Depp did it as he was fantastic and deserves the oscar nomination for the role. A great film that will be adored by both fans of the original musical and by Tim Burton fans. Two warnings, it is a musical (even if it is a good one this may be a put off) and there is a lot of death and blood so be prepared. Review by Jonathan Little
