The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)

This film is not overly well distributed meaning that some parts of the story take too long to unfold while others are over too quickly. I have read that a lot more was shot for the period after Jesse James' death and so it seems that this could have benefited from being longer. Meanwhile several parts of the story, namely parts that do not involve the main protagonists take too long.
The filmmakers were gifted with some brilliant subject matter and it is shot fairly nicely in a very artistic manner. The acting talent of the whole cast is impressive and Brad Pitt should be up for best actor with the performance. Casey Affleck proved himself as an actor in his role as coward and the films ending although a little short is very very strong. There are just two other issues I have with what essentially is a very good film, first narration may work well in documentary but in fiction it is usually frowned upon and it works here to pull the pieces together but really this could, and should have been shown to us. It does its job but its a job that should not have been needed. The other thing that was a little annoying was the poor sound quality in a couple of places.
It must be said that The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is a very good film with brilliant acting, an amazing storyline and strong music, it is slightly hindered by some small factors but is generally impressive. I recommend to fans of character films but not those who are squeamish.
